Breaking News: Imran Khan arrested from Zaman Park, 5 August 2023

Amidst the unfolding drama, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf confirmed Imran Khan arrested from Zaman Park, leaving the nation in shock. The court, on a Saturday, found Khan guilty of corrupt practices, ultimately leading to a three-year imprisonment sentence and a hefty fine.

Adding to the complexity of the situation, the court also disqualified Imran from holding any political office for the next five years. In an unprecedented move, the court ordered the IG Islamabad to immediately apprehend the former Prime Minister, escalating the tension in the capital.

Reacting to the verdict, PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi expressed his discontent and stated that they would approach the Supreme Court to challenge the decision. As the nation awaited further developments, Qureshi affirmed that Imran Khan was indeed in police custody.

The court proceedings took an unexpected twist when Imran Khan’s lawyer, Khawaja Haris, failed to make an appearance. The Additional Sessions Judge, Humayun Dilawar Khan, expressed his concern and stated that the judgment would be pronounced at 12:30.

However, Khawaja Haris’ assistant claimed that he was occupied in an accountability court and would be present once he was free. Judge Humayun Dilawar Khan asserted that failure to appear could lead to non-bailable arrest warrants.

The tension escalated as the deadline approached. A heavy police force was deployed outside the court premises, anticipating any untoward incident. Meanwhile, the lawyers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf took the matter to the Supreme Court, challenging the verdict of the Islamabad High Court.

Qureshi mentioned that the core committee is convening to finalize future plans, and decisions will be made in consultation with the party’s senior leaders and lawyers. The course of action will be determined based on the core committee’s deliberations.

Meanwhile, Federal Information Minister, Maryam Aurangzeb, held a press conference in Islamabad, where she addressed the link being drawn between Imran Khan’s arrest and the arrest of Nawaz Sharif. Aurangzeb refuted the connection and stated that Nawaz Sharif had willingly presented himself for accountability, denying any false accusations against him.

Aurangzeb emphasized that the arrest of Imran Khan cannot be compared or associated with Nawaz Sharif’s situation. Furthermore, she dismissed any suggestion of politically motivated arrests, claiming that if they had intended to arrest Imran Khan for political reasons, they would have done so immediately.
